According to educational research from Joyce M. Herzog, a reluctant learner is a student that is not interested in what the teacher is teaching and consequently, not able to learn within the time-frame nor manner of presentation provided (2002, as cited by 123HelpMe, February 2019). The goals and priorities for this course are intended to provide opportunities for teachers to proficiently identify the variety of factors and attributes that influence students to become reluctant learners and identify strategies for student motivation, while creating a positive learning environment conducive for all students to achieve their great potential for learning. Connections between the standards and the Danielson’s Framework will be integrated throughout the course with real-life, hands-on application, focused on establishing a culture for learning and engaging students in learning. In particular, the priority of this course will be focused upon identifying strategies to help to motivate students, strengthen the classroom community, allow students to define their own success, and deepen their own understandings of to optimize their own learning.
