Grad Credits: 3    Term End Date: Aug 20, 2021

$600

This course takes the unique approach by encouraging each and every teacher to be mindful of how to incorporate the arts deeply within their own curriculum, including visual arts, dance, music, drama, or other creative arts expression. The design of this course will support critical inquiry for students by using a variety of strategies to help them acquire new information considering many different facets and understandings, to think critically and analyze information and how to re-frame their ideas and understandings, personal beliefs, assumptions, and in particular from the context of arts-integration through exploration, investigations, construction, and personal reflection. The key here is to infuse arts-integration seamlessly with key concepts and skills through a critical inquiry from a variety of core content subjects, such as, in mathematics or language arts. This course benefits all teachers, whether a specialist teacher (i.e. art or music teacher) as well as classroom teachers. As a result, students will benefit from hands-on learning that is practical, relevant, and real-world and will become better prepared as youth learners of the 21st century. Together we will work on supporting and enriching learning experiences which include engagement in the four fundamental creative practices of the following in multiple contexts: 1. Imagination 2. Investigation 3. Construction 4. Reflection” As referenced by the Arts Success and Achievement through Creative Practices Success (NCCAS, n.d). These teaching practices foster opportunities for students to be engaged within a rich educational environment to learn new interdisciplinary knowledge while understanding different viewpoints and interpretations that may shift previous beliefs and/or misconceptions.
